In this sport it's either you have money or rich parents (or both), i.e. Jimmy O'Connor, Adam Saruwatari, Chris Rado, and Steph Papadakis. Self promotion, like Craig Paisley and Nelson Hoyos. Or sponsorship, like Abel Iberra. Sponsorship is the hardest to get, and hardest to keep. Most of the sponsors want some type of return on thier investment. Let's say Company X decides to sponsor Speed Racer. They pay Speed Racer $10,000 dollars for a piece of real estate on the Speed's car. In return they hope in some way to get $10,000 or more in sales, to recoup the money they spent. Venom spent $1.5 million and Turbonetics spent $1+ million. Now did they get thier return on thier money? Probably not. One thing fo sure it's real expensive bragging rights. I did not hear of Eddie Bello's exploits. But we were told by Infiniti Motorsport, that thier IRL engine can produce 900 hp at a rev-limited 11,000 rpm. We just wanted to find out if we could fit a VH or VQ engine under a Z32 hood. If anyone is asking how hard is that? All I can say it's easier than doing a N/A to TT conversion. We race for the "love of the sport", but ther comes a time when you have to pay the bills.
